Dr. Larissa Engert is a Research Fellow at Harvard Medical School and her research focus at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center is on the role of sleep on aspects of the immune system in post-acute infection syndromes. She received her PhD at the University of Hohenheim in Germany, where she investigated chronoimmunological aspects in large animal models (swine). She completed her T32 Certificate Training Program in Sleep, Circadian, and Respiratory Neurobiology at the Division of Sleep Medicine at Harvard Medical School, and recently received the Career Development Award from the Sleep Research Society Foundation to understand whether sleep disturbances contribute to the persistence of Long COVID by dysregulating specialized pro-resolving mediators (SPMs). Dr. Engert is an expert in the assessment of neutrophil functions, monocyte expression of inflammatory molecules, and their interaction with counter-inflammatory signals, including glucocorticoids and resolvins.
