The Mind2Move Study is a research study through Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center and The Miriam Hospital. The goal of the study is to investigate the role of Tai Chi and wearable fitness trackers (Fitbits) to promote physical activity in people who have experienced a cardiovascular event, such as a heart attack.

Principal Investigators: Gloria Yeh, MD, MPH & Elena Salmoirago-Blotcher, MD, PhD

The study has 2 groups, Group A and Group B, to which participants will be randomly assigned.

Group A participants will partake in a 6-month, group cohort-based online Tai Chi program over Zoom and will wear Fitbits to track their daily steps. Daily step goals will be given weekly to participants and updated each week based on the prior week’s steps. Home practice will be encouraged 3 times a week with instructional videos offered online.

Group B participants will be given an educational booklet on physical activity for individuals with heart conditions and will receive a Fitbit at the end of the study.

For both groups, the study lasts 9 months. There will be 3 in-person study visits (each 75-90 minutes) at the beginning, 6 months, and 9 months into the study.

Participants will be eligible for compensation of up to $150, a free Fitbit, and free parking for testing visits.
